The Quinn Canyon and Grant Ranges are part of the Basin and Range geologic province which occupies much of the western and southwestern part of the United States. The region coprises almost all of Nevada, the western half of Utah, southeastern California, and the southern part of Arizona. The province's topography consists of numerous, north-south trending mountain ranges separated by basins. These basins are between 4,00 and 6,000 feet above sea level with intervening ranges soaring toward 14,000ft. The geologic history is extemely complex in the mountain ranges and buried by thousands of feet of alluvium in the basins.
