Baranof is the tenth largest island in the United States (1607 square miles) and boasts 617 miles of shoreline. The island is bordered on the west by the Gulf of Alaska, Kruzof Island, and a myriad of small islands. It is bordered on the north by Chichagof Island, on the south by the mouth of Chatham Strait, and on the east by Admiralty and Kuiu Islands. It is the smallest of the Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof Islands (known as the ABCs). The islands are known for brown bear populations along the Southeast Alaska Coast.
